About

me and JanelleIf you’ve stumbled upon this site and don’t know who I am, my name is Brandon Gregory. I’m an INFP/INTP—I’m evenly split between the two. (Yes, I’m split on my dominant function. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I coded a test here.) I live in the Kansas City area, and I’m currently employed as a web design manager at a local ad agency, with a few side jobs as a musician. In addition to being a designer and musician, I’m a writer and a huge proponent of the Christian faith and general charity, and I really dig Guitar Hero.

I like ideas. I like thinking them and discussing them and finding out where they come from. I also like helping people—particularly people who really need it. If you want to make me happy, talk to me about ideas or helping people.

If you don’t know what the title of the site means, a lyrist is a lyrical poet, and locution is a common manner of speech of a group of people. Really, I was just going for the alliteration, so admire that if you still don’t get it.

I’m married to a truly lovely and amazing woman named Janelle. She’s in H.R., so watch what you say around her.

I consider myself a Christian Existentialist, meaning I’m mostly in agreement with Soren Kierkegaard. Other than him, I like C.S. Lewis, J.D. Salinger, Alex Garland, Donald Miller, and the apostle John. I’ve dabbled in some of the other Existential philosophers, but I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not actually all that well-read.

Also a large part of who I am, I was diagnosed with bipolar depression (type II) when I was 21 (although it’s a life-long disorder). It’s meant an interesting experience of life. It’s far too large a topic to go into on this page, but feel free to contact me if you want to hear more about it.

Musically, I mostly play bass and hand percussion (congas, djembe, bongos, etc.), but I also play drums and acoustic guitar, and I can find my way around on a piano. My favorite music artists are Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Radiohead, Over the Rhine, The Cure, The Counting Crows, The Decemberists, and Florence and the Machine. Music theory was probably my favorite course in college, so I love writing music, although I can’t say I do it as often as I should.

I have three cats: Franny and Zoey (just like the book, although I changed the spelling of Zooey to clarify the preferred pronounciation), and Sherlock. Franny and Sherlock are both Ragdoll /Himalayan mixes, and Zoey’s at least part Snowshoe, although I got all of them from rescue shelters.
