I had a portfolio and résumé on my old site, but I never created one for this site. I’m coming back around to wanting one online. This site doesn’t count, because (a) it’s in WordPress, so I’m not showing off my coding skills, and (b) I want to show more examples of my work. I also don’t necessarily want my personal blog tied to my professional portfolio. So I started work tonight on a smaller portfolio site. You can preview it here. It’s just an image now, but when it’s built, each of the sections will be a larger box than the initial page.
I welcome any feedback, especially from my designer friends. So far, it’s only an hour of work, so it’s not at all a complete look and feel—more like a rough sketch.
I like it- very clean and organized, looks like it will be easy to navigate. Is that center navigation element going to remain in place, with the sub-pages expanding around it? The only thought I had was that sometimes it can be a disconnect when the initial navigation structure changes when you go to sub-pages. I think it’s be sweet if that navigation box slid to the side and had the sub-pages open next to it in another box.
as far as the design, I really like the minimalism. Yellow is not my personal favorite, but that’s just me. i think the color palate is pretty strong and consistent among itself however. nice job- I’m looking forward to seeing the end result.
Thanks! I was actually thinking about re-designing the internal pages, but you made a good point about the navigation, so I think I’m going to leave that little box in the middle and put a strip for content down below that. I might work on re-arranging it (like a side-by-side thing), but I can’t say for sure, because I’m still playing with it.
I’m breaking my own rule with yellow, actually. Yellow is the most aggravating color on the eyes, so I tell people never to use it as a background color. I won’t have any text on the yellow background, though.
